Automatic License Plate Recognition & Teacher Notification
How It Works
- Device Setup
- The school campus is equipped with ONVIF-compliant cameras registered to the PLACA.AI platform.
- These cameras stream video to the system and are configured for license plate recognition (LPR).
- Arrival Detection
- As vehicles enter the pickup area, cameras scan for license plates.
- When a plate is recognized, the system checks if it matches the authorized parent or guardian for a student.
- Real-Time Notification
- Once a match is found, the system generates a notification containing the vehicle’s plate number, make, model, and color.
- This notification is pushed instantly to the teacher dashboard (through in-app notifications).
- Teachers see which students’ parents have arrived and can prepare those students for dismissal.
- Pickup Process
- Teachers use the dashboard to monitor live notifications and queue status.
- The student is matched to the arriving parent (verified via license plate) and marked as ready for dismissal.
- Dismissal & Logging
- After confirmation, the teacher dismisses the student.
- The system logs the pickup event for safety and compliance.
Teacher Experience
- What Teachers See: A real-time queue of arriving vehicles, each matched to students, with notifications appearing as parents arrive.
- What Teachers Do: Prepare students for pickup as soon as their parent/guardian’s vehicle is recognized, verify matches, and dismiss the student once ready.
Example Scenario
- Parent arrives in a registered vehicle.
- License plate is scanned and recognized by the system.
- Notification appears instantly on teacher’s dashboard: “Parent for John Doe has arrived – Plate: ABC123, Make: Toyota, Color: Red.”
- Teacher prepares John Doe for pickup.
- Parent reaches pickup point, teacher confirms match, and dismisses student.
Best Practices
- Monitor Notifications: Always check the dashboard for new arrivals.
- Verify Matches: Only dismiss students when the system confirms a license plate match.
- Stay Alert: The system automates arrival detection, but final dismissal is always at the teacher’s discretion.
This automation ensures teachers are instantly notified when parents arrive, speeding up the dismissal process and improving safety.
